Photovoice research
as a tool for participatory research. Photovoice is highly flexible and can be adapted to specific participatory goals, different groups and communities, and distinct public health issues. In this article, we describe the concept and methodology, with emphasis on the first goal, using photovoice to conduct participatory needs assessment. Methods. The authors conducted a meta-synthesis of qualitative research studies. Nine research databases including subject specific databases for public health, psychology and social work were searched in January and August 2020 to identify the studies that used Photovoice to explore the experiences and perspectives of people on the autism spectrum.
